Winter Slabs and Trophy Blues: Rowlett TX Fishing Update

Lake Ray Hubbard - Kaufman, TX

As we move through the heart of February, the fishing on Lake Ray Hubbard remains productive for those brave enough to face the cooler temperatures. The current water temperature is hovering around 51°F to 54°F, creating a classic winter pattern that favors deep-water tactics. Wild One Adventures has been finding consistent success by focusing on the southern end of the lake and the deeper river channels where the fish are stacking up.

White bass are currently in their pre-spawn transition. While some have already started their annual migration toward the creeks and rivers, the majority are still holding in large schools on the lower end of the lake. We are seeing "excellent" action on deep flats in 30–45 feet of water. Using a thumper to draw the schools under the boat has been the key to success. If you are looking for a high-yield Rowlett TX fishing trip, now is the time to target these jumbo "slabs" before they disappear into the tributaries.

Catfish fishing on Lake Ray Hubbard is also hitting its winter stride. The blue catfish bite is currently rated as "excellent," particularly for those drifting large baits. We are finding the most success by making long drifts across deep flats and near river channel ledges in 25–40 feet of water. Using cut shad is the gold standard right now for landing trophy-sized blues. For channel catfish, the bite is more deliberate; targeting deeper timber with prepared baits or punch bait is yielding the best results.

Conditions are expected to remain stable as we approach the spring warming trend. Whether you are looking for a half day catfish fishing trip or want to get ahead of the white bass spring run, the deep-water humps and points are where the action is. Remember to dress in layers and bring your Texas fishing license—we'll provide the heater (and the fish finder) to keep the action moving!
